Locality: Xaghra - GOZO
Xaghra, famous as a tourist destination and rich of cultural heritage, is a colourful village located on the island of Gozo. It is surrounded by the lovely bays of Ramla, Ghajn Barrani and Marsalforn. Its countryside is scenic, while the farmland is rich and fertile, making Xaghra an enticing location even in the Neolithic era, when the village was inhabited for the first time. Xaghra is also the home to the megalithic Ggantija temple complex and the Brochtorff Stone Circle. Xaghra’s first parish church, a medieval chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony is one of the village’s most important landmarks. Today’s parish church however is a basilica dedicated to Our Lady of Victories, located on the main square of Xaghra. The feast in honour of this patron saint is celebrated annually in September.
