Locality: St. Julians
St. Julian’s is a lively costal town situated in the Central Region of Malta. Always busy, St. Julian’s is renowned as a famous tourist resort, full of hotels, restaurants, bars and a vibrant nightlife, mostly centered in the neighboring area of Paceville. The town was known as an old fishing village, and this is the kind of atmosphere that one can enjoy taking a walk by Spinola Bay, with its fishing boats and nets. The bay is surrounded by café’s and bars, as well as some of the best restaurants on the island. One of the main attractions that make St. Julian’s even more amazing is the Spinola Palace and its surrounding gardens. The palazzo was built in the 17th century by Fra Paolo Rafel Spinola, a knight of the Order of St. John. Another beautiful bay located in St. Julian’s is Balluta Bay, dominated by the magnificent neo-gothic church and astonishing architecture. The parish church in Balluta Bay is dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The patron saint of the town, however is Saint Julian, also known as Julian the Hospitaller or Julian the Poor. The Memorial Day in his honour is celebrated on the 12th of February every year.
