Locality: Zabbar
Zabbar is a beautiful town located in the South Eastern Region of Malta. It is also known as Città Hompesch, and is one of the biggest towns in Malta. Zabbar got the title Citta Hompesch after Grandmaster Ferdinand von Hompesch. The name Zabbar, on the other hand, comes from the Maltese word ‘tizbor’, which is a term used for pruning trees. The parish church of Zabbar, dedicated to Our Lady of Grace, was built during the sixteenth hundreds. It is famous for its painting of the Madonna, created by artist Alessio Erardi. The feast in honour of the town’s patron saint is celebrated on the 8th of September every year, and is popular for the numerous bicycles and motorbikes taking part in the feast, as Our Lady of Grace is considered a patron saint of cyclists. Among the numerous attractions Zabbar offers visitors, some great landmarks include the Hompesh Arch, Sanctuary Street as well as Saint James Square.
